Designers Statement

I am a woven textile designer based in Derbyshire, in my third year at De Montfort University in Leicester, and I will be graduating this summer.

By focusing on colour proportions and yarn qualities, I create woven textiles intended for interior spaces. I am currently developing fabrics for lighting that incorporate reflective yarns and LED lights. In my design development, I utilise CAD and digital design processes to bring a modern and contemporary style to my work and recently I have been enjoying designing on my iPad which creates a varying painterly style to that of Illustrator or Photoshop.

I have practical experience using hand and dobby looms as well as technical knowledge and understanding from my placement year in knitted hosiery, and from this valuable experience in handling critical paths. Technical innovation is something that I am always pushing and experimenting with when designing woven fabrics, such as creating my own weave structures and squeezing the most out of each warp technically.
